Cartoon That Shock The World

World has been shocked by the caricature published by Danish Newspaper 4 years ago. From article Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy described them as Islamophobic or racist argued that they are blasphemous to people of the Muslim faith, are intended to humiliate a Danish minority, or are a manifestation of ignorance about the history of Western imperialism. In the world of civilisation, Danish should go further research about culture and religious view before publish it to their newspaper and so do to the other 50 countries.

The 12 cartoons were drawn by 12 profesional cartoonist in Denmark. Whereby, most of them are regular political cartoonist for Danish newspapers. Four of the cartoons have Danish texts. One deliberately evades the whole problem, depicting a school child in Denmark named Muhammad, not the prophet Muhammad. One of the cartoons is based on a special Danish cultural expression, and one includes a Danish politician.

In my opinion, Danish might have less knowledge about Islam that makes them decided to sketch Prophet Muhammad caricature since they didn’t even know that is prohibited by Islam itself.

To support with that, Zimmerman and Perkin (1982), designing instructional graphics that must bridge cultural boundaries that made getting into dept into the knowledge, beliefs, and concerns of their audience and used what they learned to select symbols that were meaningful for their intended audiences.

As for this cased, Danish Newspaper neglected cultural boundaries in their publication. Even if it's not based on Islam I could say each and everyone stands up for their religion no matter. So culture and religion studies is a must.

Designing your PowerPoint Presentation

On my 2nd post I have to discuss on how to have a good PowerPoint presentation. We must know the purpose of having a presentation is to deliver information. So by having PowerPoint presentation could help the audience to understand more on the topic that been present. Basically the contents in the PowerPoint presentation should be short and simple. It must only contain the keyword so the information in the slide is not overwhelmed to the audience.

Based on Anderson (1987) he emphasised on good document design must help readers read efficiently, strike out on most important contents. Also it must encourage reader to feel good about a communication. In other word PowerPoint should be like ’Match of the day’ content only the highlights of the presentation. So that it easy for audience to understand what you emphasized on your presentation rather than read the whole presentation slides.
I am going to give comment on this specific PowerPoint Presentation slides I have based on my group presentation I had last week.

Figure 1

Figure 2

In this specific slide (Figure 1 & Figure 2) even all of the slides (which there is total of 7 slides), there are a consistency but then the title is at the bottom. Wendy Russel explained in 10 Tips for Creating Successful Business Presentations in his second tip stated that slide layout is important this is to ensure that the slide is easy to understand. Title should be put on top of the slide followed by the content and also the important information should be put on top.

To be added in the slide do follow the tips stated by Wendy Russel and Zane L Marquez on How to Make a Good PowerPoint Presentation. As the point stated is easy to read and the background do have contrast with the font color

Hence other then the problem with the layout, I think that the slides is fine. The usage of graphic in figure 2 is not too much and will make audience understand more. Most people have photograpic memory. So it easy for the audience to capture the point of the presentation and memorise it.
